What We Do:

Therapeutic riding uses the equine-oriented activities for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of people with disabilities, developmental delays, and stress-related problems. In addition to riding, we have training and activities.

  • Horse Groundwork
  • Horse Anatomy
  • Horse Colors & Markings
  • Horse Behavior
  • Horse Breeds

Why Horses?

Spending time with horses can be a powerful way to relieve stress and connect the body, mind, and spirit. The benefits of equine-assisted programs are recognized by many medical and educational professionals who have witnessed firsthand how much this is true!

About Us

Lisa Hartman is Founder and Director of SHARE. SHARE is a therapeutic and recreational horseback riding organization for children and adults with special needs.  Lisa is a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor trained & recognized by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) and a Member of SC Upstate Equine Council (SCUEC). She is certified in Equine Services for Horses for Heroes. Lisa volunteers with  Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Search & Rescue Team as well as the Anderson County Citizen Emergency Response Team.

My desire as the Director of SHARE is to inspire and encourage each and every one that comes to the farm to better understand the partnership between horse and rider working together to be as independent as possible in all aspect on the ground and horse. SHARE clients have gone on to compete in some of the local horse shows as well as 2019 Special Olympics South Carolina State Equestrian.

What are the Benefits of Therapeutic Riding?

Therapeutic riding can physically improve coordination and help normalize muscle tone. It canhelp improve posture and increase the functional range of motion, muscular strength, and flexibility. Perceptual motor skills and sensory motor skills may also improve. Thepsychological benefits for the individuals who participate include improved motivation, self-esteem and confidence. Therapeutic riding enhances the development of cognitive skills and allows the rider to improve communication, socialization skills and learn teamwork. Therapeutic riding provides benefits in the areas of education, sports, recreation, and medicine to individuals with a wide range of disabilities and special needs.

The challenges some people face are often underestimated and  yet we have seen first-hand the incredible changes these individuals make when they participate in our programs. The goal is to help each individual find a sense of belonging and self-efficiency that may not be possible  because their disabilities or disadvantages hold them back from realizing what’s truly within reach for themselves as well as others around them.
